2026 is off to a great start... In January, I had the pleasure of going to Vancouver for the West Coast premiere of The Golden Anniversaries at Arts Club Theatre Company. It was great to meet the artists working on the show, have a chat with emerging Vancouver playwrights, and be interviewed by Artistic Director Ashlie Corcoran at an opening night donor event. This production ran at the Granville Island Stage and then toured BC. They are now running for two weeks in Kamloops at Western Canada Theatre, April 2-12.
I just wrapped up performing Murder on the Orient Express at Theatre Aquarius. The production was directed by Morris Panych (who helmed the premiere of The Gig at Aquarius) and starred a bunch of fantastic folks. It was an absolute pleasure to do. The day after closing, I hopped on a plane to Halifax for to see Chase the Ace at Neptune Theatre. It was my first time actually seeing the play and I had a great time. Jacob James is fantastic as Charlie and everybody else. While in town, I had a chance to do a Playwrights Guild of Canada PlayConnect reading/chat hosted by Santiago Guzmán from Playwrights Atlantic Resource Centre, as well as meet with some other members of the theatre community. Quick trip, but worth it. Also in Nova Scotia, I'm happy to say that the cast of last year's The New Canadian Curling Club picked up a Merritt Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble and Brenda Duran took home the hardware for Outstanding Set Design for Chase the Ace. Congrats, folks! My TYA play, Boys, Girls, and Other Mythological Creatures had another production last month with Theatre on the Ridge, touring to local libraries over March break. The Birds and the Bees also had a production at New West Theatre in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Season announcements are rolling out for 26/27. I'm excited to say that The Golden Anniversaries will have a production this summer at Theatre Baddeck in Cape Breton and this fall at Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon. In September, the Hudson Village Theatre production of Bed and Breakfast heads to Watermark Theatre in PEI. There are also non-professional productions of many of my plays lined up around the country. I try to post about those on my Instagram stories, so follow along if you're so inclined.
Now, I'm back to the writing desk for several weeks before my next acting gig starts rehearsals. I had a great script workshop last week, hearing something out loud for the first time. And have other projects at different stages of development. Never a dull moment. Happy Spring!
