Bed and Breakfast

"I didn't quit my job, uproot my whole life, and move out here just to go back into the closet."

About the play

heartfelt comedy about “being out” in a small town, skeletons in the closet, and finding a place to call home.

Brett and Drew want to move out of their tiny downtown apartment and into a house, but they just lost their seventh bidding war in Toronto. When Brett unexpectedly inherits the historic family home in a quiet little tourist town, the couple decides to move out of the quick-paced city to renovate and run a B & B. But the boys face friction in their new community and discover the simple life is more complicated than they thought.

With dozens of hilarious characters--male, female, young, old, gay, straight--all portrayed by two men, Bed and Breakfast is a theatrical tour de force that's as laugh-out-loud funny as it is deeply poignant.

✭✭✭✭✩
“Entertaining, accessible, and quietly subversive. This show has ‘hit’ written all over it.”
- NOW Toronto

“A remarkable play, filled with humour, warmth and love. I laughed, I cried, I walked out of that theatre believing in goodness and humanity.”
- Hamilton Spectator

✭✭✭✭✩
“Crawford’s play may be a comedy, but it is as deeply thoughtful as it is funny.”
- Stage Door

“Heart-wrenching, hysterically funny, and frenetic. It is a mastery.”

- 3MDR Radio

“Full of charm and quiet humanity.”
- Montreal Gazette

✭✭✭✭✩
“The characters are multi-faceted, even complex—and they’re portrayed with heart and humanity.”
- Times Colonist, Victoria

“Funny, touching, and sweet. Crawford is most impressive in the way he sketches full characters with just a few lines and, in so doing, swiftly constructs a world that seems to have existed long before the house lights dim.”
- The Globe and Mail

“Crawford’s script is chalk full of witty one-liners, big, broad comedic moments, and biting observational-style humour. You’ll walk away in awe at live theatre’s continuing ability to celebrate human connection, challenge toxic cultural stereotypes, and still leaving you smiling from the simple joy of a good story well told.”
